Some book recommendations

I just wanted to recommend two books that so far our pastors have suggested for our new "Book of the Month" at church.

The first is a book called Don't Waste Your Sorrows by Paul E. Billheimer. It is a book written to help those who are going through or have gone through suffering in their life to sort out the question of "why?" Our pastor gave it to my husband when he fell off the roof, resulting in a crushed foot and 4.5 months of crutches and surgery and since then, continued pain and disability.

The second book is called Knowing God by J.I. Packer. From CBD's description: J. I. Packer's Knowing God has become a classic of the Christian faith. Why? While it gives us information about God with clarity and grace, it does much more---it aids us in actually knowing him, in building our relationship with him, and helps draw us closer to him in love and worship. This 20th anniversary edition of Packer's classic has new Americanized text, reader-friendly type, and a new preface. Study guide not included.

Personally, I recently read a book that I would recommend to women called Passionate Housewives Desperate for God by Jennie Chancy and Stacy MacDonald. What a wonderful book speaking to women on the idea of being a Biblical woman in a world that embraces the modern view of women being just like men. I found it to be an easy read, and not trite as so many books on this subject are (or worse yet, giving unBiblical advice).

The book I'm currently reading is called The King James Version Controversy by James White and it's an amazing book. I'm really enjoying his writing style (easy to follow) and the huge number of footnotes he has. I honestly haven't read a note with footnotes like this in a long time (typically 60+ for a chapter). I'm one who prefers fiction to non-fiction but I'm finding that I'm making time to read this because I find it interesting! I'm learning a lot of history about Bible translations and I'm also seeing that Ecclesiastes 1:9 is true "there is nothing new under the sun". I can highly recommend it to any who would want to find out about this subject.

A woman after my own heart! I can't pass up a good book. I've been so busy at school that I don't have the time I normally do to read during my lunch breaks but I'm hoping that I can catch up on my reading this summer. Luckily I came back from the States last summer with a suitcase full of books and I recently discovered the existence of a used book store here! Whoohoo! If we don't travel this summer I'm getting a stash of books and locking myself in my air conditioned apartment. :D
