"Christian" blogs

I've been surfing some blogs and websites today and I have to say that some of them saddened me greatly. Some are so filled with hate and outright sin that it shocks me that they can still post about their relationship with the Lord. In one, a woman was angry that someone else asked for a recipe because she'd most probably claim it as her own. So the woman purposely was trying to mislead the other woman - then finally when "forced" to give her recipe, she lied and left out a few key ingredients so this woman couldn't bring it to a gathering that they were both at and claim it as her own. This woman was gleeful that it turned out gross but then was angry because some of the women thought it was her own dish that she brought rather than this "wicked crone". (yes, that's a direct quote).

On another blog, there were some very hateful words against Clay Aiken who came "out" in a magazine that he is, in fact, gay. Yeah - that's no surprise for those of us who have watched him but this woman had never seen him - just his picture. She said basically that she could have told anyone he's gay just by looking at his picture. Hmmm - that's interesting. Now, Clay Aiken small and has finer features than say, Vin Diesel, but there are a lot of straight men with similar features. So she can tell that someone is living a sinful lifestyle by looking on the outward appearance in a photograph? Then she went on to say some very coarse things about him. Now I certainly don't condone homosexuality and have helped to counsel someone out of that lifestyle but calling them names is not going to help. Truth will but truth with grace. Truth with love. Truth like Jesus told the truth.

SIGH. What ever happened to the fruits of the Spirit? Love? Joy?? Peace?? Self-control?? Kindness?? I guess you don't need them when you don't feel like it.

I have a few verses to speak to this issue:

Philipians 2:3 "Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."

James 3:13-18 "13Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace."

So true, Ann, it is so true. Is it any wonder that so many have a bad taste in their mouths about Christianity with this sort of thing taking place? What a horrible witness we provide of Him when we behave in that fasion!

great post ann :) i am so saddened to see so many women who claim their blogs as Christian...only to use it to promote their own un-Christian agenda (hmmm one comes right to my mind)and then quote scripture as if that will make it ok.

I found you from that blog comment about recipes. That was terribly unkind - not at all how so many of us Christian women strive to be. I want my life to say Jesus to people and it is hard and I screw up more than I get it right, but I try. The 3 blogs I read of that woman's were so negative. In the first one she thought it would be "poetic justice" to blow up a whole school of sodomites. How very sad. I thought your comment to her was spot on. Just wanted to share that :)

Kaira - I know - I saw that new blog post. It made me absolutely sick. I certainly know homosexuality is a sin but before Christ, we are ALL sinners. By saying "With any luck, some radical will blow up the gay school. No, I'm not condoning vigilantism--I'm merely saying that it would be poetic justice." and that in a Biblical society, homosexuality would be punishable by death, she is basically saying that she hopes that homosexuals would go to hell. However, Jesus Christ died for homosexuals as well as murderers, gossipers and thieves. In the Old Testament, we were under the law and the law decided life or death. But now we are under the New Covenant and grace - not the condemnation of the law. What homosexuals need is prayer, ministering and having someone touch their lives to lead them to Christ. You're not going to get that by going all Westboro Baptist on them. :( So she's deciding that they are not worthy of being saved. That's sad. And honestly, that is not Christ-like.

Ann,
I agree with you post. Many blogs I have seen recently written by "christian" women , are little less then hate filled hearts with the ability to type.
We may be the only connection to Christ that some people ever see/hear. Where is the Fruit?
Ga:5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Ga:5:23: Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Hugs, GG

I am so relieved to have found this! I am in no way religious and dont hide that fact, but you almost echoed my thoughts on some of your comments. I get the feeling from reading some blogs that these people have been completly brainwashed and are just trying to spread more hate, as if we need more of that in this world.

Nice to read you Ann,

I'd like to add my admiration and respect for you for standing up to those who would preach hate in place of love.

I found your blog from one of the ones you mentioned and was horrified by what I read there. This world needs the rational, moderate, emotionally-centered members of it's religions to speak out against the hateful bad-apples that give faith a bad name.

Unfortunately, people seem to be naturally drawn to the most extreme elements of any ideology, as it represents the most dramatic departure from their everyday live (this is especially true on the internet!) and so notoriety begins. It is sad that stereotypes soon emerge that tar the many with the brush of the few.

Please continue to speak out against those who claim to speak for you - particularly if they're raising others to think and believe as they do.

Kind Regards,

Matt

I have been searching for christian blogs and they are few and far between it seems. And some that are, are not christian at all.

Garnetrose - What kind of blogs are you looking for? Maybe I can help. There are some great ones out there that I can highly recommend.
